About Us

We are Experienced, Pro-Union Workers Who Believe in Including and Empowering All Union Members through Creating Meaningful Member Engagement Opportunities, Improving Communications and Transparency and We Want You to Join Us!

We Value You

Our experienced team reflects the diversity of our membership.  'Our Diversity is Our Strength' is not a hollow slogan to us.  We value your thoughts and truly want to listen to you.  We are not afraid of including fellow members who may sometimes have views that differ from our own.  In fact, we wholeheartedly welcome and encourage diverse perspectives.

We each have unique life experiences that influence how we think about things.  Listening to each other creates opportunities of learning, understanding, and growth for all of us.  Together, our union will be stronger.  Join Us!

Valuing Each Member

Our Promise to You

WE WILL listen to all members.

Whether we have contrasting perspectives, we will work with members to effectively resolve their concerns.  We recognize that being open-minded encouraging the sharing of diverse ideas is not a bad thing. It provides us all with opportunities to think about issues in ways we may not have done before and may present solutions we hadn't considered.

WE WILL communicate effectively.

More than a year after we ratified our new contract with KP -our largest bargaining group-, the union's website still calls on members to "cast your strike vote."   Our present administration has demonstrated that they are incapable of even updating our union website during -or even well after- our union memberships' most critical periods.

WE WILL be union leaders, not union bosses.

All of us have experienced good and bad management while at work and understand the differences, our current administration does not.  We deserve union leaders, not union bosses.

WE WILL be available for members to communicate with us.

To serve the members -you- effectively, union staff should be there when you need us.  And we will be there for you, with our email addresses and phone numbers of every member of our team available to you.

Often, when members reach out to our union, they don't receive the assistance they need. Everyone who contacts the union office deserves timely responses to their concerns. We will be accountable to you and return your calls.

WE WILL collaborate effectively with other labor organizations.

In 2017, without the knowledge of our union membership, the current union administration chose to remove our union from the San Diego and Imperial Counties Labor Council. This was wrong.  We would never make such important decisions without the involvement of our union membership. We will make all decisoins centered on the best interest of the membership.

WE WILL welcome members to actively participate in the functions of our union.

Members will no longer be 'blacklisted' from participating in our union activities due to expressing divergent views.  Under the current administration, union stewards who speak up when they disagree are removed from their role as stewards.  Members who share when they disagree are no longer selected for union committees or union events.  True leaders can accept others' perspectives and criticisms.

Case #21-CB-342687

Charge:  "8(b)(1)(A) Duty of Fair Representation, incl'g Superseniority, denial of access"

Basis of Charge:  "Your charge alleges that the Union refused to process and arbitrate your termination grievance for arbitrary or discriminatory reasons or in bad faith. The investigation revealed that the Union processed your grievance by meeting with Kaiser Permanente (Employer) at step one and two of the grievance procedure. Thereafter the Union assessed the merits of the grievance and based on information from both you and the Employer, the Union decided that the grievance would have little probability of winning before an arbitrator and decided to withdraw the grievance. The Union’s decision was based on weighing the information it had obtained, and there is no evidence that the Union’s decision to withdraw your grievance was for arbitrary or discriminatory reasons or in bad faith."

Petitioner:  OPEIU Loal 30 Member Employed at Kaiser Permanente

Date Filed:  05-15-2024

Final Disposition: Denied

Status:  CLOSED

Case #21-CA-338279

Charge:  "8(a)(5) Refusal to Recognize, 8(a)(5) Refusal to Bargain/Bad Faith Bargaining (incl'g surface bargaining/direct dealing), 8(a)(3) Discipline, 8(a)(3) Discharge (Including Layoff and Refusal to Hire (not salting)), and 8(a)(1) Coercive Actions (Surveillance, etc)"

Basis of Charge:  "Within the previous six months, the Employer discharged an employee(s) because the employee(s) joined or supported a labor organization and in order to discourage union activities and/or membership. Within the previous six months, the Employer disciplined or retaliated against an employee(s) because the employee(s) joined or supported a labor organization and in in order to discourage union activities and/or membership. Within the previous six months, the Employer has interfered with, restrained, and coerced its employees in the exercise of rights protected by Section 7 of the Act by engaging in surveillance or creating impression of surveillance of employees' union activities. Within the previous six months, the Employer failed and refused to recognize the union as the collective bargaining representative of its employees. Within the previous six months, the Employer failed and refused to bargain in good faith with the union as the collective bargaining representative of its employees."

Case #21-RD-337866

Description:  Request for Decertification of the OPEIU Local 30 Business Agents CWA bargaining unit (the Union that Marianne insisted at the 01-18-2023 General membership meeting that she did not 'bust').  Just 3 days after joining CWA, Ezekiel filed to decertify the union.  On 03-17-24, they voted (1 voted to remain union members and 2 voted to decertify their union).  So, the result of their vote is that they voted out their union.  People with the anti-union mentality of the current administration do not deserve to be entrusted to make the right calls and represent our union members when they demonstrate that they can't even make the right decisions for themselves.

Basis of Charge:  n/a

Petitioner:  Communications Workers of America Local 9509 Member, Ezekiel Diaz.

Case #21-CB-336968

Charge:  "8(b)(1)(A) Duty of Fair Representation, incl'g Superseniority, denial of access"

Basis of Charge:  "Your charges allege that the Union violated the National Labor Relations Act by refusing to process or handle a meritorious grievance or creating an oppressive bar to make the grievance. In support of the charge, you allege that the Union did not timely or sufficiently act in response to your communications to the Union about having filed a harassment complaint with the Employer or the status of the Employer's internal investigation of your complaint, and that an individual was permitted to work pending completion of the Employer's internal investigation of your complaint. However, the evidence presented during the Region's investigation of your charges reflect that in response to your communication, the Union followed-up with Human Resources about your concerns, sought and obtained accommodations for you pending the Employer's completion of its internal investigation of the matter, and reported back to you about the steps it took. Moreover, the is insufficient evidence that you specifically requested that the Union file a formal contractual grievance over the matter or that the Union's failure to file a grievance was based on any arbitrary, discriminatory, or bad-faith considerations."
